The Fire TV Alexa Voice Remote Pro has a lot of great features, all of which you can read about here in my review. One of the best features is the built-in speaker that can be triggered to beep in order to find a lost remote. There are several ways to trigger the remote finder feature, so here they are in order of easiest to hardest.
Before you begin…
There are a few requirements you need to be aware of for the remote finder feature of the Pro remote to work. First, the Fire TV that the remote is paired with must be powered on. This means that if you have your Fire TV Stick connected to the USB port of your TV, make sure the TV is turned on so that the USB port that the Fire TV Stick is connected to has power. Second, the Pro remote must be within 30 feet (10 meters) of the Fire TV that it is paired to. So if you trigger the remote finder and can’t hear anything, then it likely means that the remote is too far away to receive the trigger. Lastly, if your Pro remote is paired to a Fire TV Smart TV, then you must have the “Alexa Anytime” or “Voice Commands When TV Screen is Off” setting enabled. You can find this option under Settings > Display & Sounds > Power Controls.
Option 1: Using an Echo or other Alexa Device (Best)
If you have an Alexa-enabled device, like an Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, or Fire TV Cube, the simplest way to make the Pro remote begin to beep is to say “Alexa, find my remote.” If you have another Fire TV in your home, you can even say “Find my remote” into the other Fire TV’s remote to trigger your Pro remote’s find feature.
Bonus Tip: If you have more than one Pro remote, you should go into the Alexa app on a mobile device and rename each remote to something more recognizable like “Living Room Remote” or “Bedroom Remote.” This way you can say “Find my [Name of Remote]” so that the correct remote begins to beep. Do this by selecting the remote under “Devices” in the Alexa app.
Option 2: Using Amazon Shopping, Alexa, or Amazon Music app (Better)
If you don’t have an Alexa device, like an Echo, you may think that triggering your Pro remote through the official Fire TV app is your best option. It’s not because that takes way more steps than what I’m about to suggest. What you should do, instead, is open any Amazon app on your phone that is Alexa-enabled and say “Find my remote” to Alexa in that app. Apps that are Alexa-enabled include the Amazon Shopping app (Google Play & Apple App Store), the Alexa app (Google Play & Apple App Store), the Amazon Music App (Google Play & Apple App Store). If you already have any of those apps installed on a phone or tablet, it’s much quicker to open the app, tap the Alexa button on the home screen, and say “Find my remote” than to go through the Fire TV app.
Option 3: Using the Fire TV app (Worst)
Using the Fire TV app is the most cumbersome way to trigger the Pro remote’s finder, so you should probably use the above options instead. If you have no other choice, follow the below steps.
- Turn on the TV that is connected to the Fire TV that the Pro remote is paired with.
- Open the Fire TV app on a phone or tablet. It can be downloaded from the Google Play Store, the Apple App Store, or the Amazon Appstore.
- Select “Remote” from the tabs along the bottom of the app.
- Select the Fire TV device that your Pro remote is paired to from the list that appears.
- Enter the code that appears on your TV into the Fire TV app.
- Once the virtual remote appears, press the remote finder button in the top left corner.
